Baloch Political Philosopher and Nationalist Laid to Rest

nawab funeralQUETTA, Pakistan — Baloch political philosopher and veteran nationalist Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, who passed away on June 10, has been laid to rest in New-Kahan, Quetta.

Thousands of Baloch civilians, political leaders and students participated in the funeral.

Nawab Khair Buksh Marri (86) died on Tuesday in Karachi at a private hospital after his health worsened. His dead body was brought to Quetta airport by a private plane and later it had been moved to Combined Military Hospital.

It was scheduled that funeral prayer of Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri would be offered at 9 a.m. at Hockey Ground Quetta and after that his body would be taken to his native town Kahan for burial by a helicopter. However, Baloch political workers opposed the location of the funeral prayers, after which pro-freedom activists, Baloch women and nationalists relocated the body to New Kahan for the burial.

Nawab Marri’s funeral prayer was offered in New Kahan, located in Western suburb of Quetta. Hakim Baloch Nawabzada Jangaiz Marri, Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, former chief minister Humayoun Khan Marri, Baloch nationalist leader Dr. Abdul Hayee Baloch, Central Secretary Information Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Agha Hassan Baloch and Chairman Voice for Baloch Missing Persons Mama Qadeer Baloch, attended the funeral prayer.
